Managing a Russian. Vance Thompson, the successful magazine writer and novelist, on his recent return from i Russia, where he went to gather material for an article upon the douma for Every body's Magazine, was asked how h managed to get along without knowing the language. Mr. Thomp son said one had not the slightest difficulty in making his wishes un derstood in Eussia. "For instance, when I wanted to go to a certain place I would jump into a drosky. If I wanted to go to the right, I would kick the driver on the right leg. If my direction laid tohe left I would kick him on the left kg. If my inclination led me straight ahead, the kick was placed in his hack. When I wanted him to stop I simply pulled his hair. It is reallv a most satisfactory system at least the Russians find it so. I am thinking of innovating it here myself in Paris." M. A. P. in America.
